There's a reason it is a dot com 'rut'... it is by far the most well-traveled road!
As I wrote in
WebForging (
WebForging - A practical guide to the art of forging your web presence), a client purchased a one-word domain name, a "last name" that happened to be the same as that of a major university.
They got 25,000 visitors a month who were looking for the University site - indeed, who's last page view was deep in the college's website - yet when they went to go to the home page they entered "dot com" instead of "dot edu"!
I do like some of the applications of the "dot US" extension. For example, AppliedLeadership.US (
APPLIED LEADERSHIP - Motivational Speaker, Leadership Keynote Speaker, Military Leader) is very fitting for a retired US Army General who speaks on leadership and motivation in America.
