The best way to save images?
Heya.
I wonder what is the best way to save images: in JPG, GIF or PNG format? I usually use gif, because it preserves really sharp lines (unlike jpg, which tends to blur things a little). However, I wonder if you won't notice that GIF can not handle as many colours as JPG (that's why JPG is often used for photos, it can make nice gradients etc.).
You probably use jpg for photos, but what do you use for images that belong in your design, or just random other images in posts? Avatars? Sigs?

Well it depends on what you are doing with the images? I would stick with common formants, ie. .JPG .GIF and .BMP because those are most widly used.

Err well BMP is kinda non-compressed so you'll definately have a good image quality, only it'll be lots of MB's to download.

Re: The best way to save images?
I typically use jpeg's if I choose, but normally I just let it stay at whatever the default setting is for that file.

Re: The best way to save images?
Well that really depends on the type of image, e.g. for photos and other high resolution images its better to use jpg and for animations and custom made images, gif is there.

Jpeg is more cool, but it needs more free space, so I used to compress pictures with jpeg compressor and save it on dvd or hdd, but now it's more easy to upload them to their free photo-sharing so i use this program now with more pleasure, having more or less good servise for free.

I tend to use TinyPic.com, also free and one of the better known, reliable services.
