Default My LiveJournal paid site

I've just started a paid www.LiveJournal.com account at www.Wisteens.com (which resolves to wisteens.LiveJournal.com as a sub-domain of Live Journal).

Part of the reason for doing this was to become familiar with all of the features of major blog tools.

Another reason: only $20 per year.

Third reason: www.WisTeens.com is a complimentary site - for younger Wisconsinites - to our Wisconsin Portal, www.theBubbler.com

Another reason: I believe I read somewhere that about 90% of LiveJournal users are under 25 (perhaps younger) so the demographic matches the target audience we're after.

Finally, the search mechanism - advanced search - is available with a paid account. There are over 57,000 LiveJournal blogs from Wisconsin alone (a medium sized state in the US, in terms of both population and geographic area). Advanced search lets one search for interests in a given municipality, state, region or country. This could come in handy later (no, no spamming).

So, $20 a year. $7 a year domain name. Not bad for a whole website in a format the target audience relates to.

Regards,
Keith

I know several people who have LiveJournal but have never bothered to check them out.

I wasn't aware there was a "paid" option.. I thought LiveJournal was by invitation?

The free version is, of course, unpaid - and requires no invitation.

Users skew exceptionally young. Many name their web page as a MySpace.com page; MySpace also skews very young.

The free version is fairly limited; between 6 and 15 images and no voice blogs as with the paid version.

My hope is to tap into a medium the age group is comfortable with, but to have the result be 'family friendly'; perhaps an uphill battle, the language used throughout LiveJournal.com and MySpace.com is f****** awful as often as not.

Regards,
Keith

This means a lot coming from a Moderator of the Year for www.theBubbler.com last year!

LiveJournal is a great service. I used to use it for a coule of years now. Funny thing that my LJ had PR3 before they moved blogs to their own subdomains.
