I've just started a paid
www.LiveJournal.com account at
www.Wisteens.com (which resolves to wisteens.LiveJournal.com as a sub-domain of Live Journal).
Part of the reason for doing this was to become familiar with all of the features of major blog tools.
Another reason: only $20 per year.
Third reason:
www.WisTeens.com is a complimentary site - for younger Wisconsinites - to our Wisconsin Portal,
www.theBubbler.com
Another reason: I believe I read somewhere that about 90% of LiveJournal users are under 25 (perhaps younger) so the demographic matches the target audience we're after.
Finally, the search mechanism - advanced search - is available with a paid account. There are over 57,000 LiveJournal blogs from Wisconsin alone (a medium sized state in the US, in terms of both population and geographic area). Advanced search lets one search for interests in a given municipality, state, region or country. This could come in handy later (no, no spamming).
So, $20 a year. $7 a year domain name. Not bad for a whole website in a format the target audience relates to.

Keith
