What works better for you, facebook or myspace?
Its fairly straightforward I think. For me, myspace gives me better SEO results, actually is one of my top 10 for bringing visitors to my new site, and the fact one gets a customizable profile makes it more appealing for my needs. I have tried with facebook but it seems to me people on facebook tend to screen who they add as friends and who they don't more then myspace users. Myspace it seems everyone and their brother are willing to accept because certain apps (like myspace mobsters) encourage them to grow their friends list and build the mob bigger. I use this to my advantage for getting new friends. Facebook just seems restricted to me. So I am curious which do you prefer and why?

Of the two, Facebooks hands down simply because it does offer you more control over friends, etc. Personally I'd rather have the ability to target who sees what.. with MySpace, you may get more "friends" but they're useless if they don't fit your demographic. Would you rather have 1000 12 yr olds looking to inflate their friends count or 100 good buyers/leads?
Facebook also looks more professional/cleaner.. with MySpace, you have a mishmash of eyesores IMO.
That said, I don't even have a MySpace account at present and would only use it for family or friends if I did.
It really depends on who you're trying to reach.

Re: What works better for you, facebook or myspace?
I actually used to think a lot like you appear to think (based on the 12 year olds remark) but myspace is honestly not a place for kids. I purchased a program that allows me to mass friend request people on myspace based on keyword searches, ages, and a lot of other factors (these programs are quickly identied by myspace if used incorrectly and accounts removed).
This same program allows me to go around and post bulletin messages on my entire friends list at the click of a button with a pre configured message. This gives me HUGE SE results on people that have public profiles! I can also customize my messages with use of special software based tags so each message is different and directed to the myspace user. This makes it a lot less like "spam" and a lot more like recommendations to friends.
I guess its a matter of preference but I have tried face book time and time again its just so restricted I find it very hard to do practicle business with it.

Re: What works better for you, facebook or myspace?
But in the end, it's still all about demographics and, of course, conversions.. using an automated application may get you some SE traffic but I know I've seen way more questionable profiles on MySpace than on Facebook. Young kids inflating their ages, giving their locations as "your mom", etc. I just don't view MySpace as a suitable "business" environment.. socially, maybe.
And conversions? If you're selling anything, what kind of conversions are you getting?
But to be honest, given the choice.. I'd go with "neither".. I use Twitter almost exclusively right now.
Ever tried hi5 | Your Friends. Your World?

Re: What works better for you, facebook or myspace?
Well to be honest, I don't try to sell anywhere except my blog. I use myspace and all my social sites for a means to market myself, not my affiliate links. My blogs do a fine job of that actually. My niche is actually blog readers who want to make money. So its much easier to sell things like wordpress themes and blog template creation software from my blog then from myspace or twitter. You are right a lot of variables come into play
However if you want me to be COMPLETELY honest, with my adult sales, a LOT does indeed come from myspace, but I am guessing you are thinking "I am not surprized" LoL
As far as other social networking sites, Hundreds and hundreds exist and I have seen a lot. I find the ones that work best for me revolve around bloggers and blogs (like blogcatalog). I havn't seen hi5 before but I would ask what exactly makes it different from others?

Hi5 has a large Hispanic demographic.. so it's the place to go to reach that particular audience.

Re: What works better for you, facebook or myspace?
I just got another MySpace account, just to keep in touch with a couple family friends who don't use Facebook or Twitter..
Which do YOU prefer: FaceBook or MySpace?

Twitter first...
Now facebook?
I cleaned it up and eliminated all those so-called friends who did nothing but market their websites.
Now believe it or not, only have 2 friends (Dave is one of the lucky ones).
The rest are family.
And spending more time on facebook, though I don't market.
Just playing farmville more and more.
That is easy to get hooked on!
