I tend to use Wordpress (hosted on my own server) most often.. if I find I have some specialized need, such as a photo-intensive blog, I may try a niche or custom platform if I can't find a suitable Wordpress theme or plugin.

I only use wordpress because it is quick, simple, and so easy for SEO.

And my own hosted domains.

I avoid free blogs, and I tell people to avoid them.

Wordpress. I've tried the others and found Wordpress to be the easiest to template and customize, including writing your own custom plugins.

WordPress is probably, far and away, the easiest and most supported blogging platform.. wise choice for anyone and nearly every situation.
