Lots of opportunities yet for niche auction sites.. I'd like to see a WP plugin tho for the Swoopo style auction format.

The problem with anything other than a tightly focused niche auction site is the inability to get posters.. buyers are easy, posters to a new site is not.

Very true Dave!

I had a classified ads blog.
Getting people to come to the blog was a useless venture.
Ended up with the same people posting constantly but no one buying or visiting.

So I dropped that idea last week.
Now have the domain directed to another domain until I can sell the domain.

Classifieds and auctions are so overdone, it is hard to get traction now.
Same with directories...

Unless, as I said, your niche is highly targeted.. say, fishing lures or bicycles.. you get my drift.

Highly niched like that means very hard to find people first to advertise then others that really want to go to your site.

Face it, despite everything, the vast majority of people go to ebay first.

The problem with eBay is it's become too much like Amazon.. too many new items on there.

That really is not a problem.
In fact it is a good thing, for ebay and users.

I just have not been to ebay as a seller in so darn long.
I should go there and sell stuff.
Pissed me off when they cut out digital goods.
Though quite a few sellers seem to be getting through that by saying it is on a cd, yet when you pay it is a download.
